An autograph manuscript journal including sections entitled 'Humiliés et offrusés', 'Les Possédés', 'Les Travailleurs' and 'Tumée'. It also includes notes on Greek literature and Latin and Spanish grammar, as well as French word lists with translations.

Scope and Contents Journal written by Louise Swanton-Belloc during part of the Franco-Prussian War. [L S B spent this period on the Isle of Wight and in Richmond.] Incomplete: consists of pages 1-40 and pages 47-51. (Pages 47-51 were formerly catalogued as GCPP Parkes 17/6: pages 1-40 are part of the papers accessioned in 2013.)Together with a typescript transcript of pages 47-51, presumed to have been compiled by Ana Vicente. A pencil note on the flyleaf in the hand of Susan Lowndes Marques reads 'Believed to be Mme Swanton Belloc's diary when she was in Richmond, Surrey during the Franco-Prussian War. S.L.M.'. The first page is headed 'Mon Journal 1870'. The volume is a little over half full. It also contains a press cutting, pasted in towards the end, concerning 'serviceable articles of food for besieged towns (no date, no source). It is presumably a continuation of GCPP Parkes 17a/2/2 above.
